ISTANBUL, Turkey | Turkish authorities have not granted permission for a Divine Liturgy planned for July 9 at the Basilica of the Apostle Paul in ancient Antioch of Pisidia, preventing the service from taking place at one of Asia Minor’s historic Christian sites.
The Metropolis of Pisidia of the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced the development, informing the faithful and pilgrims that the Eucharistic gathering at the historic site, near the modern city of Yalvaç, would not be celebrated.
The announcement gave no further explanation for the decision.
Antioch of Pisidia is directly linked to the first missionary journey of the Apostle Paul, who preached there with the Apostle Barnabas, as described in chapter 13 of the Acts of the Apostles.
