The Sinaite Brotherhood and the Egyptian state are reportedly close to an agreement that would safeguard the functioning and property rights of the Monastery of St Catherine at Sinai, one of the world’s oldest continuously operating Christian monasteries, after intense negotiations conducted under the pressure of pending court cases.
According to a report by journalist Nikos Meletis on protothema.gr, the formula under discussion would recognize the Egyptian state as owner of the properties on account of their archaeological character, while the monastery would retain possession and free use of them in perpetuity.
