MOSCOW, Russia | Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow used a meeting at the Kremlin to underscore the role of religion in preserving national unity, as Russia faces continuing geopolitical pressure and international confrontation.
The two men met on the occasion of the Patriarch’s name day, with the discussion focusing on social cohesion, interreligious relations and the stability of Russia’s multiethnic society.
During the meeting, Putin called for the experience and influence of the Patriarch to be utilized in strengthening the unity of the Russian people, stressing the importance of maintaining balanced relations among religious communities and Christian Churches within the country.
