ORTHODOXIA.INFO | Spiros Papageorgiou Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk has stated that there has not been a single statement issued by any of the local Churches in support of the efforts of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to grant autocephalous status to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Asked by journalists to comment on the reaction of other Churches to events in Ukraine, the head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Ecclesiastical Relations said, “Some Churches have spoken openly in favor of a pan-Orthodox gathering while others have remained silent, but I still haven’t seen a single statement coming from any of them in support of the unilateral efforts publicized by Constantinople and engaged in without the approval of the other local Churches.”
Metropolitan Hilarion added that the Ukrainian Church is a self-governing division of the Moscow Patriarchate. “[This Church] is fully independent administratively and economically, and does not answer to the Patriarchate of Moscow in any way. It is a Church which unites most of Ukraine’s Orthodox Christians, despite the fake statistics some in the media have been citing and, unfortunately, Patriarch Bartholomew as well.”
