ORTHODOXIA.INFO | Andreas Loudaros The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople has called upon cantors and choirs using tablets, laptops, and mobile phones—a phenomenon which appears to be on the rise—to end this newfound practice and return to the traditional method of using books.
The decision made by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate states that “[T]he use of electronic devices instead of the liturgical books of our Church during holy services is considered contrary to established church practice, worthy of condemnation, and something that will scandalize believers.”
It also adds that “The use of such devices in churches and during divine worship should be avoided, as this contributes to the modernization of liturgical life.”
